As ValueOptions Regional Medical Director for the Texas Office Dr. McDanald is involved in the development of clinical policy and guidelines and oversees the management of Clinical Care including utilization review, quality management and outcomes.

Prior to becoming the Texas Regional Medical Director, Dr. McDanald served as Medical Director of Dallas County MHMR for over 2 years. While at Dallas County MHMR Dr. McDanald participated in preparing that program to compete as a provider in NorthSTAR Medicaid rollout, which privatized public mental health and Medicaid Mental Health Services.

Throughout his career Dr. McDanald has had an active clinical practice. He joined the Timberlawn Hospital medical staff in 1982. While there he managed inpatient psychiatric services. He also provided administrative and clinical leadership in transitioning Timberlawn Hospital from a long term care facility to one of an acute managed care model. While at Timberlawn Dr. McDanald had the opportunity to function as a Clinical Supervisor and teacher in the residency-training program. He remained at Timberlawn until joining Dallas County MHMR in February 1997.

Since 1982 Dr. McDanald has been an active participant in organized medicine both at a Local and Statewide level. Dr. McDanald has been very active with the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians and the Texas Medical Association. He served as President of TSPP in 1997. Dr. McDanald has had numerous opportunities to testify on behalf of patient care during legislative sessions.

Dr. McDanald received his Medical Degree from the branch University of Texas Medical in Galveston. He completed his residency at the University of Washington training program
in Seattle.
