Washington, DC — February 16, 2005
The National Association of Specialty Health Organizations (NASHO) today announced that it has elected Michele D. Alfano, R.N., chief operating officer for ValueOptions (www.valueoptions.com), and Sharon E. Ware, chief operating officer for Ingenix (www.ingenix.com), to its Board of Directors. Their term begins immediately and runs through 2007.
"These seasoned health care industry leaders bring a wealth of experience in quality and accreditation, state and federal regulation, behavioral health, health IT and much more," said Julian Roberts, NASHO executive director. "Their insights and proven management skills will create an immediate impact on association initiatives."
Alfano is a registered nurse with more than 25 years of experience in health care, including 20 years experience in both medical and behavioral managed care. She is responsible for overseeing ValueOptions' business divisions, which include the Employer Solutions, Public Sector and Health Plan Divisions. In addition, she has responsibility for the organization's legal, marketing, clinical, quality management and proposals departments.
"Specialty care, by its design, enables highly trained and experienced health professionals to provide individualized care to the people they serve. ValueOptions joined NASHO because, along with other member companies, we share a common goal to provide innovation and the very best service in our industry," said Alfano. "I am honored to be invited to serve on the NASHO board, and see this as an exciting opportunity to share my experiences and join forces with others that feel strongly that specialty care remain a vital part of the health care system."
Ware is responsible for managing credentialing, provider data, quality management and CAQH service center operations for Provider and Consumer Information Services, the provider data and software business unit of Ingenix, a United Health Group company. Prior to joining Ingenix, she held a number of senior positions during a 17-year career with Humana.
"Ingenix values NASHO's leadership as the voice of specialty health organizations and for its growing leadership among the organizations, as well as within the industry," said Ware. "I hope to encourage and participate in NASHO's role in developing a legislative agenda, as well as providing information to association members about business opportunities."
